The Marian Wright Edelman Public Library
Grant Recipient
The Marian Wright Edelman Public Library
Marian Wright Edelman Public Library received a $6,000.00 grant from the Marlboro County Coordinating Council to fund early learning materials for their National Family Place Library. The target audience is Marlboro County families. Its mission is to support the educational, cultural, informational, and recreational needs of the community.
THE MWE Public Library’s play space is designed to meet the educational needs of families by allowing parents to engage with their children and learn through play in a safe and welcoming environment. They have several stations targeting the development of gross and fine motor skills, imaginative play, creative drawing stations, balancing skills, hand/eye coordination, and much more.
The project is ongoing and will continue for years to come. The items purchased will last us a long time and allow for many families to develop a love of learning just by spending time in our Library – and out in the community.
Some items purchased with grant funds:
Giant Lincoln Logs
Balance beams
Dolls
Legos
Lego table
Soft seating
Dress up outfits
Comfort animals
Giant legos
Imaginative play sets (grill and changing station), and much more.
